Damero is the alias of Marit Posch from Berlin and she has some unfinished business. #emotechno is picking up the sketches and pieces that have been left incomplete in the years following her debut album „Happy In Grey“, released in 2007 on BPitch Control, continuing a project that is too precious to wither away.
Life has moved on, times have changed. Ten years later, everything is falling into place for Damero to reappear, with a record more personal and liberated than „Happy In Grey“ could have ever been.
Some of these new songs have literally been untouched since back then, while others underwent numerous remodelings and rearrangements – like „Universal Hickup“, which has evolved into a hauntingly beautiful blend of ambient electronica and dream pop. The crackling melancholy of „8th Day Of The Week“, the mystically pitched vocals of „Heart, We Will Forget Him!“, it’s all coming from the same special place, adorned with strings, warm piano tones and sensitive electronic production.
There’s a brand new song, too: „Hope Is The The Thing With Feathers“ is an overwhelmingly candid introduction to a record that feels crafty and perfectionist, but is presented with the utmost calmness.
With the helping, co-producing hands of AGF and She’s Drunk, Marit makes her music sound as sincere and vital today as it did in 2007. The difference is obvious: The best way to write emotional techno music is to leave out the techno part. It makes your heart rave even more.
Snappy breakbeats, acid-drenched samples, and ’90s techno textures abound on this five-track knockout from the South Korean DJ and producer. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 13, 2023
